Job Description:
Accurately perform and score polysomnography tests as ordered by a physician. Provide quality services, includes administering
polysomnograms, assessments, and treatment through documentation and actions. Measures electrical activity of patient's brain waves and other physiological variables, using polysomnography, to aid physician in diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders (http://www.careerplanner.com/DOT-Job-Descriptions/POLYSOMNOGRAPHIC-TECHNICIAN.cfm) : Applies surface electrodes to patient's head, using adhesive paste or tape, to obtain electroencephalogram (EEG) measurement and applies other combinations of sensors and electrodes to patient to obtain measurements such as electromyogram (EMG), electrooculogram (EOG), electrocardiogram (http://www.careerplanner.com/DOT-Job-Descriptions/POLYSOMNOGRAPHIC-TECHNICIAN.cfm) (EKG), air flow respiratory effort, and oxygen saturation, as requested by physician and following established procedures.
Qualifications:
Registered Polysomnographic Tech (RPSGT) certification through the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) required at the time of hire or within 12 months of hire if currently a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
Registered Polysomnographic Tech (RPSGT) certification through the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) required at the time of hire or within 12 months of hire if currently certified as an EEG tech with ABRET.
Currently boarded as a RPSGT in the State of Iowa.
Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.
