Job Description

Public Service Supervisor

The Department of Revenue is seeking a Public Service Supervisor to join our Sales & Excise Tax team. This position is responsible for supervising a team whose job is to complete desk audits or travel to various locations to observe business operations and accounting procedures, determine the correct Iowa tax, and enforce compliance with Iowa tax reporting requirements.

The Compliance Division oversees all facets of tax processing, issuances of business permits, and alcohol regulation throughout the state. From the receipt of individual and business tax returns and payments, audits and collections, to routine compliance inspections and regulatory verification of alcohol-licensed establishments, this division is tasked with upholding, enforcing and educating taxpayers and licensees on Iowa’s laws and regulations.

The successful candidate will be able to:

  • Provide leadership and training to employees to help them perform at their maximum level.

  • Develop and implement objectives and strategies for team members.

  • Monitor and evaluate employee performance.

  • Monitor and evaluate progress of audit programs.

  • Participate in cross-functional continuous process improvement opportunities in collaboration with colleagues.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

1) Graduation from high school (or GED equivalent) and experience equal to four years of full-time work experience in general office administrative support; specialized technical program support; or program administration, development, management, or operations.

2) All of the following (a, b, and c):

a. Graduation from high school (or GED equivalent); and

b. One year of full-time work experience in general office administrative support; technical program support; or program administration, development, management, or operations; and

c. A total of three years of education and full-time experience (as described in part b), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in any field equals one year of full-time experience. Graduation from the Iowa Certified Public Manager Program is also equivalent to one year of full-time experience or education.

Additional Qualification Requirements

Within a period of time after hire, as determined by the appointing authority, persons in this class may be required to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and endorsements..
