Under the direct supervision of the Patient Service Manager, is responsible for obtaining and processing patient menu selections and nourishments to assure compliance with diet orders. Responsible for using computer software systems to ensure patient safety with food-related allergies and accuracy of meal tickets. Processes calorie counts and calculates volume of tube feeding to be delivered daily. Assists with patient tray and nourishment delivery to floors. Provides proper phone etiquette and customer service for all age groups from infants to elderly.

What you will do:

  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide service/care appropriate to the age of the patients served, in accordance with MercyOne standards and Trinity Hospitality Services.

  • Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the MercyOne and Trinity Health Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions.

  • Communicates any patient related problems/diet menu selections to appropriate personnel (Registered Dietitian, Patient Service Manager) in a timely manner following departmental procedures.

  • Complies with health and safety standards and guidelines such as maintaining a safe environment, reporting and recording of health and safety-related incidents, demonstrating understanding of emergency plans and safe use of department equipment. Complies with Safety and Infection Control Policy & Procedure.

  • ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES:

  • Uses dietary software programs and reports to assure patient safety and meals are served in compliance with current diet order. Meal Tray Tickets are checked for accuracy.

  • Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior.

  • Maintains a professional image at all times (Hair groomed, proper clean uniform, badge visible to patient, etc.)

  • Input nourishment orders into dietary software. Prepare and deliver nourishments and tube feeding orders to units utilizing safe handling procedures.

  • Prepare late meal trays according to patient diet order/meal ticket.

  • Responsible for obtaining menu selections utilizing the 2- patient identifier from patients in compliance with diet order.

  • Responsible for generating patient meal tickets, patient and production reports using dietary software.

  • Processes and records: guest trays, early/late trays, Care Cart and any requested items for patients and colleagues.

  • Demonstrates excellent customer service skills; accurately and promptly communicates emails and voicemail messages. Exhibits pleasant and cheerful demeanor and maintains a helpful attitude towards employees, physicians, patients and visitors.

  • Interacts with Nursing to ensure patients' diet prescriptions are accurate, and patients' food needs are met.

  • Accurately processes calorie counts in dietary software.

  • Promotes and establishes effective relationships within the Nutrition Services Department, with other departments and colleagues: nursing, physicians, hospital guests.

  • Takes an active role in enhancing abilities to carry out job functions through personal and professional/job related growth and development.

  • Participates and attends departmental meetings, huddles and staff development programs as appropriate.

  • Completion of high school or GED.

  • Prior experience working in the field of institutional food service/health care food service preferred, but not required.

  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with adults.

  • Ability to work as a team member and to work independently.

  • Must possess high integrity and maintain confidentiality at all times.

  • Must be able to cope effectively with stressful situations and time constraints.

  • Ability to read, follow and understand written and verbal instructions required.

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills required.

  • Ability to perform a variety of duties characterized by frequent change and requiring foresight and leadership skills.

  • Must have a general working knowledge of computers and department specific software (i.e. Microsoft Windows, Foodservice Software etc.…)

  • Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
