Avera Marshall Medical Scheduler in Sibley, Iowa

SUMMARY: The Medical Scheduler schedules appointments for various hospital departments, including outpatient services, specialty clinics, surgery, and other hospital departments as assigned. The Medical Scheduler will also perform receptionist, secretarial, and clerical record-keeping duties. They will provide information, records, schedules, and prepare services for use by other departments. Assists with prior authorization as needed.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • 2 years hospital, medical office, clinic, or hospital business operations experience required.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, and/or REGISTRATIONS:

  • Current license to practice in Iowa and/or multi-state licensure as a CNA or other similar healthcare profession preferred.

  • Iowa Mandatory Reporter training within three months of employment.

  • BLS must be acquired within 12 months of employment and must be kept current throughout employment.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for answering centralized scheduling phone to accept requests for appointments/referrals from physicians and nurses for hospital and clinic departments.

  • Manages schedules for multiple departments to organize patient visits.

  • Provides excellent customer service by providing closed loop communication about appointment logistics and expectations.

  • Provides patient education and follows up with patients to assist with questions and concerns.

  • Navigates and troubleshoots electronic documentation.

  • Serves as a liaison to outside facilities to set up appointments at ORHC.

  • May provide direct patient care by rooming patients, measuring vital signs, and documenting information in the EMR.

  • Actively participate in department huddles.

  • Assists prior authorization department as needed.

  • Requests outside medical records as directed.

  • Assists with department stocking needs.

  • Manage patient portal access requests.
