Description:

JOB SUMMARY: Under the supervision and direction of the staff nurse, assists patients with activities of daily living, provides patients with basic nursing care. Assists in maintaining a safe, clean environment in accordance with established methods and procedures of MercyOne Newton Medical Center.

• Participates as an active member of health care team.

• Provides/assists with personal care and activities of daily living.

• Assists with admission, discharge and transfer of patients to and from the unit.

• Measures and records heights, weights, intakes and outputs, and appetites as directed.

• Obtains vitals and blood glucose readings as directed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Ability to read, write, and follow written and oral instruction in English.

• Ability to comprehend basic medical terminology and perform basic math skills.

• Ability to operate a computer efficiently.

• Maintains BCLS certification at health care provider level and Mandatory Reporting.

• Listed with the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals Direct Care Worker Registry with eligible ID number.

• Minimal age of 16 years.

EDUCATION:

• High School diploma or equivalent required.

• Completion of 75-hour certified nurse aide course required.

• Completion of 150-hour advanced certified nurse aide course preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Prior experience as PCT or CNA is helpful.
