Position Summary

We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer like you to join our amazing Muscatine, IA Manufacturing plant.

The Bandag facility in Muscatine has been in operation for more than 50 years and is where the retread equipment is made that directly supports Bandag retread dealers. Bandag dealers use this equipment in their retread plants to create quality retread tires for fleet customers of all sizes.

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will be providing engineering services and support to the global Bridgestone Bandag pre-cured tread (PCT) manufacturing operations through evaluation, analysis, design, supervision, upgrading and installation of corporate facilities, equipment, controls, power distribution and process systems. You will be a source of knowledge and expertise on equipment in the PCT manufacturing plants globally. You will also need to be proficient in electrical risk prevention systems and the control systems on all manufacturing equipment.

Responsibilities

In this role, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Engineering design, development, installation, and support installs on new machine control and power systems for the global PCT manufacturing plants.

  • Provides engineering support for existing PCT manufacturing and equipment.

  • Proposes new programs to keep equipment and processes technologically advanced and leading the industry in product quality, productivity, energy efficiency, environmental responsibility, and safety.

  • Ensures standardization of control systems and components is maintained.

  • Evaluates existing processes and equipment and recommends modifications and refinements resulting in cost savings, quality, and safety improvements.

  • Makes informed recommendations for additions and modifications to new and existing equipment required for manufacturing.

Project Management

  • Responsible for reaching agreement with customer on cost, schedule, and functionality for each new project.

  • Plans, organizes, and controls major projects.

  • Handles multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Coordinates the efforts of other engineers, technicians, plant personnel and contractors.

  • Responsible for coaching/mentoring other engineers and technician.

Consulting and Communications

  • Relates plan of operations and establishes priorities for projects.

  • Provides liaison between the global PCT manufacturing plants and corporate.

  • Visits the global PCT manufacturing plants and to study processes, consult with personnel and make recommendations.

  • Represents the company in contacts with outside suppliers of equipment, services, and systems.

  • Serves as technical expert/resource to the global PCT manufacturing plant maintenance departments and provides onsite training and field support.

  • Conveys information to plants on equipment or process improvements in all areas.

Work Environment and Occupational Demands

  • Teammate communicates with staff engineers, plant engineers, plant managers, directors, and executive directors.

  • Position may require extensive periods of onsite time at any given manufacturing location.

  • 90/10 flexible work model when not traveling.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in engineering or engineering technology or equivalent, Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology.Minimum 6 years applicable experience in electrical engineering including controls design, PLC programming and project management.

  • Teammate must be willing to travel domestically and internationally up to 40% to support the manufacturing plants.

  • Teammate must be willing to work extended hours as needed.

  • Strong fundamental knowledge of industrial controls and electrical systems.

  • Critical thinking with exceptional problem-solving skills.

  • Able to work independently and in cross functional team environments.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred

  • Experience in writing/developing/programming PLCs, experience in electrical and controls project management, experience in industrial controls design, experience specifying, installing, start-up and operation of Allen-Bradley PowerFlex variable frequency drives, experience specifying, installing, start-up and operation motion control systems using of Allen-Bradley Kinetix servo drives, experience in Ethernet IP communications, power distribution equipment including sizing transformers, electrical feeders, and distribution gear for equipment loads from 120V up to 4160V, experience with Machine Vision Sensors and Systems, working knowledge of Industrial Robots (Kuka), working knowledge of Omron PLCs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a master’s degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent work experience.
