Position Purpose:

Provides leadership for the clinical areas in the planning, directing, and evaluating of nursing care for Hospice patients. Promotes quality patient care and customer satisfaction through CQI initiatives, financial parameters, Service Excellence initiatives, staff development and education, communication, and support of changes for improved patient care.

What you will Do:

  • Develops, implements, and reviews department/organization policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services complying with MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center policies, Joint Commission requirements and federal and state regulations.

  • Maintains current knowledge base of trends, policies, regulatory standards, and legislation. Develops and maintains departmental staffing plan detailing appropriate associate classifications and qualifications are consistent with the department’s operational plan, projected volumes, and other relevant indicators.

  • Prepares and assists with regulatory visits, including making supervisory visits with clinical staff, and making on-site visits with surveyors.

  • Participates in annual human resource planning process providing recommendations for staffing proactive recruitment and long-term needs.

  • Assures daily staffing adheres to plan.

  • Creates, updates, and maintains position-specific competency-based orientation manuals and prepares the orientation for the new orientee to start.

  • Develops and manages the department's Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI) plan based on, but not limited to, the department's quality outcome measures, process improvement measures, patient/associate satisfaction data and associate safety and injury prevention.

  • Interviews and selects qualified staff for open positions and assures associates are appropriately oriented.

  • Continually develops staff through competency assessments, in-services, continuing education and performance appraisal process.

  • Monitors and analyzes ongoing performance and productivity and implements necessary corrective plans.

  • Responsible for annual skills validation, competency training, annual performance reviews for all direct reports, and other just in time education.

  • Collaborates with staff, physicians, and other leaders to provide coordination of care, sharing resources for the common good.

  • Responsible for Kronos timecard and PTO approval.

  • Maintains high levels of employee engagement in areas of responsibility.

  • Works with each employee to clarify the outcomes that are expected and coaches toward success. Guides others in continuous learning and growth and best fit in the organization.

  • Shares patient satisfaction work-team scores with staff and engages them in developing improvement plans.

  • Creates an Annual Education Plan inclusive for Nurses, and HHA’s.

  • Participates in Hospice specific activities including Mercy One North Iowa Hospice Board meetings, the Interdisciplinary administrative team (IDAT), and supports the Hospice philosophy.

Monday - Friday ( 8:00a - 4:30pm)

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • Graduate of a program in professional nursing Current RN licensure in the state of Iowa Must have a BSN or bachelor's degree in an approved course of study or be willing to complete a bachelor's degree within five (5) years Experience:

  • Previous experience and expertise desirable in supervisory capacity; i.e., team leading charge position

  • Minimum of 4 years of clinical experience

  • Home health, hospice, or community experience preferred

  • Must provide proof of Basic Life Support ( BLS Provider -American Heart Association or Professional Rescuer-American Red Cross) prior to employment or within 30 days of hire and maintains current status.

  • Must provide proof of Mandatory Reporting for Child and Dependent Adult Abuse training prior to employment or within 6 months of hire and maintain current status per State of Iowa guidelines

  • Completes Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) within 6 months of hire and maintains current status.
