Robert Half Senior Payroll Specialist in Des Moines, Iowa

Description

Robert Half is currently working with a client looking to fill a Senior Payroll position. This Senior Payroll position will be responsible for work on tax-related tasks, such as W2 forms, preparing reports and updating policies, and will help achieve standards that are necessary for growth within the financial department. If you are a dynamic Payroll Manager with excellent communication, proven leadership, and are deadline driven, this may be the role for you.

Key responsibilities

  • Collaborate with accounting and Human Resources (HR) teams

  • Supervise and coach payroll clerks and assistants

  • Handle payroll tax audits and collaborate with auditors

  • Create reports and ensure accuracy of records

  • Develop systems to process payroll account transactions (e.g., salaries, benefits, garnishments, deductions, taxes and third-party payments)

  • Supervise system upgrades and the processing of payroll changes (e.g., new hires, terminations, raises)

  • Comply with internal policies and relevant laws

  • Coordinate timekeeping and payroll systems

  • Resolve issues and answer payroll-related questions

    Requirements - Knowledge in compliance

  • Knowledge of payroll applications

  • CPP, CPM, or other related professional certifications is a plus

  • Trained in handling confidential business matters and information with discretion

  • 2+ years of proven leadership experience as a payroll manager or similar role

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • 5+ years of payroll experience

  • Organizational and leadership skills

  • Knowledge of current payroll procedures and related laws

  • Excellent understanding of multi-location payroll and taxes

  • Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Human Resources or related field
