Principal Financial Group Product Manager 2 in Des Moines, Iowa

What You'll Do

We’re looking for a Product Manager 2 to join our Benefits and Protection, Principal Financial Network (PFN), and Principal Securities, Inc. (PSI) Distribution Product team. In this role, you will be responsible for delivering valuable and viable solutions in partnership with the product team.

You will define and drive the strategy, discovery, and delivery for a variety of products with varying complexity, ensuring alignment with business and enterprise goals. You will collaborate across disciplines, tackle high-value problems, and lead product initiatives to successful outcomes.

Product Strategy:

  • Partners with Sr. Product Managers; Assistant Director, Director, or Sr. Director of Product Management to ensure product strategy aligns with product family, business, and enterprise strategies.

  • Ensures relationships and dependencies with other products and teams are clearly understood; and works to integrate strategy through shared objectives.

Product Discovery:

  • Accountable for understanding and defining key business outcomes and requirements for their product.

  • Discovers opportunities/problems to solve.

  • Articulates hypotheses and leads the product team (design, engineering, and various business roles) in conceptualizing and running experiments.

  • Operates and improves an effective parallel discovery and delivery model

Product Delivery:

  • Collaborating with technology and non-technology partners. Work to remove impediments that the team may face in the pursuit of value creation.

  • Collaborates with team to break down work in a manner which frequent release of valuable product changes.

  • Responsible for successful delivery of measurable, goal-aligned value and is responsible for the product roadmap.

  • Communicates product releases to stakeholders and partners.

Product Assessment:

  • Ensures every goal-aligned unit of value built by the team(s) is measurable and shows progress towards objectives.

  • Monitors and communicates product health, impact of product releases, and progress against product goals.

Stakeholder Management and Communication:

  • Communicates key information (strategy, priorities, plans, experiments, results, etc.) regarding the product(s) with stakeholders.

  • Communicates effectively as part of the product management team supporting a broader product family or portfolio.

Product Leadership

  • Serves as a resource to Associate Product Managers as they develop product experience, knowledge, and skills.

  • Finds opportunities to improve product management practice within their sphere of responsibility; and takes action to continuously improve.

Who You Are

  • 4+ years of business, technology, or product management experience; or equivalent demonstrated through the following: work experience, training, military experience, or education

  • Proven experience running one or more products.

  • Strong critical thinking, collaboration, and decision-making skills in a product context.

  • Ability to run multiple priorities and opposing workloads effectively.

  • Experience in stakeholder and relationship management within a product environment.

  • Leadership skills with experience influencing and negotiating across teams.

  • Ability to use varied perspectives and data (customer, user, or partner) to drive decisions.

  • 2+ years in a collaborative, fast-paced environment with engineering teams and partners.

Skills That Will Help You Stand Out

  • Broker-Dealer Experience: Knowledge of broker-dealer operations, regulatory frameworks, and compliance standards.

  • Data Strategy & Management: Demonstrable ability to design and implement data strategies, including data governance, quality, stewardship in a broker-dealer environment

  • Experience running complex, data-intensive systems across an enterprise as a Product Manager preferred

Salary Range Information

Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)

$100800 - $182400 / year

Time Off Program

Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

Work Environments

This role offers in-office, hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek), and remote work arrangements (only if residing more than 30 miles from Des Moines, IA, or Charlotte, NC). You’ll work with your leader to figure out which option may align best based on several factors.
