Principal Financial Group Assistant Actuary - Benefits & Protection in Des Moines, Iowa

What You'll Do

We’re looking for an Assistant Actuary to join our Specialty Benefits Division Finance & Reporting team. In this role, you’ll focus on Individual Disability Insurance (IDI) finance functions coordinating development of our model to support strategic initiatives!   • Maintaining and updating financial forecasts to reflect business strategy, market changes, investment mix, and updated experience.

  • Creating scenario analyses for stress and sensitivity testing on various forecasts.

  • Supporting implementation of new models to be used in valuation, forecasting, scenario modeling, and investment management.

  • Coordinating with cross-business unit peers to maintain consistency of modeling work.

Who You Are

  • Bachelors or master's degree in Actuarial Science or related field

  • FSA designation or expected to achieve FSA designation within one year in position

  • 2+ years of actuarial work experience required

  • Strong analytical and effective communication and presentation skills

  • Knowledge of spreadsheet and database or similar PC software packages, or the ability to learn, is preferred

  • Ability to direct the work of others and assist in their education and development

Skills That Will Help You Stand Out

  • Expedience working with MG-ALFA

  • Past experience with disability products

  • Experience in financial reporting and/or risk modeling

Salary Range Information

Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)

$95200 - $182400 / year

Time Off Program

Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

Work Environments

This role offers in-office, hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek), and remote work arrangements (only if residing more than 30 miles from Des Moines, IA, or Charlotte, NC). You’ll work with your leader to figure out which option may align best based on several factors.
