Join the MercyOne Family! We are looking to hire a Respiratory Therapist, HME.

As a Respiratory Therapist, HME at MercyOne, you will provide clinical respiratory services in client homes, assisted living facilities, long term care facilities and other locations where home respiratory equipment is required. Service area is a 4-county area in both Iowa and Illinois. Respiratory equipment includes home oxygen, CPAP and BiPAP equipment, home suction, medication compressors, apnea monitors, and other equipment as assigned. Clinical services are documented in accordance with established procedures. Performs client diagnostic procedures as required. Evaluates equipment in patient homes according to an established schedule. Provides hands on instructions and trouble-shooting tips for clients receiving respiratory equipment for home use. Provides in-services on equipment to long term care facility staff as required so they can provide appropriate patient support. May deliver other equipment depending on the needs of the department. Takes call in rotation with other staff members. Ages of the patients served range from newborn to geriatric.

  • Provides instruction for therapy and/or equipment use for home self-care as directed by physician referral.

  • Maintains complete and accurate documentation of client home or facility visits.

  • Receives and writes verbal or phone orders pertaining to respiratory care.

  • Responds to on-call client needs.

  • Deliver, set-up, and pick-up, equipment and related products in client homes and institutions.

  • Educates clients on the proper home use and maintenance of equipment.

  • Trouble-shoots and makes minor repairs on equipment that is suspected of malfunctioning.

Schedule:

  • 8:30 am – 5:00 pm Monday – Friday, on call rotation every 4th week and weekend.

General Requirements:

  • Must have a Registered Respiratory Therapist license in Iowa and obtain Illinois license within 4 months of hire.

  • Must be registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care upon hire.

  • Valid Driver's License with no prior history of DWI/DUI convictions within the past 5 years. No prior history of motor vehicle accidents within the past 3 years that were determined to be the fault of the driver. No moving violations in the past 12 months. Proof of appropriate auto insurance coverage.

  • Must pass Illinois background check within three (3) months of hire.

  • Must acquire and maintain certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support

  • Must be available for 24 hours call to include weekends and evenings when assigned.

  • Must be able to communicate and relate to clients who are ill, elderly, anxious, or confused.

  • Must exhibit patience and compassion when educating clients.

  • Basic computer keyboarding skills are required.

  • Must be able to communicate with client family members and other health care professionals such as physicians, nurses, social workers, etc. that may be encountered when in client homes and institutions.

  • Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.

  • Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission and vision, goals, and values of Trinity Health.

Education:

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
