Job Overview

As a part of the Engineering Department, the Automation Engineer will support and maintain the plant wide Distributed Controls System (DCS), standalone PLC’s and plant alarm system. Interaction with all areas of the manufacturing plant site will be inherent to this position as well as the ability to problem solve and prioritize activities to meet project deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Provide automation support for Operations, Quality Assurance, Information Technology, Maintenance, and Production Engineering to ensure a safe and efficient facility to produce quality materials.

  • Lead / assist facility designs or modifications as it relates to automation and alarm system needs. This may include control panel design, network architecture, computer systems, other as needed.

  • Perform necessary automation / engineering functions to support project related design work and project capital requests.

  • Provide equipment / instrument troubleshooting support.

  • Responsible for training contractors and vendors for any work on site via appropriate policies and procedures.

  • Train employees across departments in system changes and updates to ensure proper operation of DCS systems.

  • Develop, revise, and maintain loop sheets, system hierarchy documentation, drawings, and sketches as they pertain to projects throughout the facility.

    All employees are required to adhere to DEA, EPA, FDA and cGMP regulations as they relate to the operation of the Company; and to adhere to all company safety rules and procedures. All employees are expected to report to work regularly and promptly. Other duties relating to departmental mission, not specifically detailed in this section may be assigned.

Qualifications/Skills

  • cGMP/FDA knowledge and/or experience highly beneficial.

  • Knowledge of instrument control design, installation and testing preferred.

  • Piping and Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) knowledge preferred.

  • Computer experience in windows based environment including word processing, spreadsheet and data base programs.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

Education, Experience & Licensing Requirements

  • BS Chemical Engineering, highly preferred: other related fields will be considered with appropriate experience and knowledge.

  • 2 or more years experience with Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and/or plant alarm system experience.
