GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:
Successful candidate will ensure compliance with Federal, State, and local regulations by maintaining, improving, and creating initiatives for environmental compliance and risk reduction for Kirkwood’s main and outlying campuses.
The work schedule for this position will be first shift during weekdays, but may need to come in after hours for emergencies.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Become familiar with Kirkwood’s environmental compliance needs (including but not limited to waste compliance, air emission compliance)
Work with internal stakeholders and external partners to ensure compliance and permits
Update and write standard operating protocols (SOPs)
Maintain accurate records related to waste inventories, inspections, hazardous waste shipments, and air emissions
Coordinate lab packs and other waste disposals
Maintain college’s emergency spill response protocols and equipment
Conduct and coordinate inventories of hazardous wastes and hazardous materials
Use the CampusOptics software for compliance and risk reduction (chemical inventory, inspections, and other activities)
Provide environmental training to and interact with employees to ensure safe handling of waste, appropriate waste packaging, and disposal procedures for worker and environmental health
Conduct on-site inspections
Perform other related work duties as assigned

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:
Position involves a combination of working in an office setting and light to medium work. Position involves exerting up to 10-50 pounds of force occasionally (10-33%). Occasional (10-33%) standing, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) sitting, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing. Position may require the use of a various respiratory protection devices, incumbent will be required to obtain a medical clearance and subsequent fit test for respirators.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, chemistry, or related field; or education/experience combination equivalent
Understanding of chemical safety
Ability to understand and apply Federal, State, and local environmental regulations
Good interpersonal relationship skills
Good communication skills
Valid Driver License with a good driving record and ability to be covered through the College’s insurance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS
Experience working in higher education
Working knowledge of hazardous wastes, air pollutants, and other hazardous materials
Experience in handling of hazardous materials and wastes
Experience in understanding processes that can produce hazardous air pollutants and hazardous wastes
Familiarity with RCRA, DOT, and OSHA regulations
Experience in data entry
Proficiency in various office and spreadsheet software including but not limited to Word, Excel, PowerPoint and ability to learn other software programs
