Cedar Falls Utilities is currently recruiting for a full-time Distribution System Engineer I to join our Electric Operations department. This position is responsible for assisting in the technical design, data base management and coordination of electric substation, transmission and distribution maintenance and construction projects.

Compensation & Benefits
Full-time, Exempt Salary position.
Starting wage is based upon individual qualifications. $76,690 - $100,790.
Typical work schedule is Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 4:00pm with an hour lunch.

Responsibilities
In support of electric design and system planning, performs distribution system flow studies as needed. Performs engineering design, prepares standards and coordinates various maintenance programs. Creates and maintains maintenance and reliability records on databases.
Provides project management including preparing cost estimates, bidding documents, contracts, purchase requisitions; Works with contractors and vendors to ensure schedules and budgets are met.
During outages and other electric emergency situations, assists with restoration. Ensure that CFU outage restoration program and integrated voice response system are current and functional.
Troubleshoots electric problems to include substation and metering equipment, transformers, tap changers, capacitors, regulators and controls, switches and reclosers; as needed and assists with troubleshooting communications problems.
Facilitate solutions to residential, commercial, and industrial customers with power quality issues including voltage problems and other utility issues as needed.
Responsible for maintaining a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that promotes positive relations with customers and co-workers.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
Experience:
Two (2) years electrical engineering experience is preferred.
Certifications/License:
Licensed professional engineer (PE) in the State of Iowa preferred.
Residency:
Must reside within a 20-mile radius of the main CFU campus, 1 Utility Parkway, Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of:Commonly-used electrical engineering concepts, practices, and procedures; various engineering standards; standard engineering equipment, including meters, recording equipment, testing equipment; and computer software applications.
Ability to:Apply principles and techniques of electrical engineering to accomplish goals and meet deadlines; Rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job; communicate effectively orally and in writing with employees, city officials and CFU customers; establish and maintain cooperative work relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Prompt response to emergencies and after hours “on-call” duty is required.
Physical Tasks and Environmental Conditions:
Work involves sedentary to light work in an office setting. There is frequent need to stand, stoop, walk, sit, lift light objects (up to 15 pounds) and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday.
