The City of Ames Water and Pollution Control department is currently accepting applications for one temporary spring and summer maintenance position.

This position, under general supervision, will be primarily responsible for maintaining the grounds of the Water Treatment Plant and other remote sites, as well as painting and washing vehicles and equipment.

The primary location for this position is 1800 East 13th Street. The work hours are Monday - Friday 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM.

Salary Changes: As of July 1, 2024, the current hourly rates increase by 3.47%.

The General Laborer duties will include mowing and trimming of grass and shrubbery at the plant and remote well and water tower sites; may plant new shrubbery, flowers and grass seed; pull weeds in planting areas, rake lawn areas, and run a gas weed eater around buildings fences and tanks; clean the facility, remote sites, and wash vehicles; clean and repaint floors and equipment as needed;

Other duties may include assisting with driving a tractor with mower attachment, preparing surfaces, and assisting with other inside and outside maintenance projects as needed.

Must be at least age 18 and have a valid driver's license.

Selection Process: The selection process consists of an evaluation of education, experience and supplemental questions; an interview; completion of a criminal background check, which includes a sex offender registry check and motor vehicle record check and successful completion of references. Preference may be given to applicants possessing prior work history relevant to this position.
