Job Description:Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Department of Aerospace Engineering, in the College of Engineering at Iowa State University (ISU), invites applications for a full-time position of Tenured Full Professor of Aerospace Engineering starting in the Fall 2025 semester.
Successful candidates will be expected to establish, sustain, and grow a world-class externally funded research program that complements or aligns with the department’s areas through independent and collaborative efforts. Successful candidates will also be expected to establish a record of scholarship at the highest levels, contribute to the teaching missions at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and engage in institutional service and service to the profession. Candidates should have strong communication skills and exhibit the potential for long-term leadership in supporting the mission of the department, college, and university.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Establish and conduct externally funded research programs
Assist in leading the Center for Non-Destructive Evaluation in the role of Associate Director
Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in topics aligned with the needs of the department and the non-destructive evaluation programs
Provide services to ISU and professional community
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, or a closely aligned field.
Must meet the university standards for appointment to the rank of Professor, including a substantial scholarly record in their area of expertise that demonstrates national distinction or international recognition.
Demonstrated experience in leading large research centers or large interdisciplinary research teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
Evidence of collaboration and leadership towards a unified vision in research and education.
All aerospace application areas will be considered; however, the department is particularly interested in areas related to new directions in non-destructive evaluation and advanced manufacturing.
Applicants with an experimental focus should have a clear and demonstrable connection to existing experimental facilities at Iowa State.
An ability to teach undergraduate aerospace courses in one or more of the following areas: structural mechanics, mechanics of materials, non-destructive evaluation and testing.
Extensive experience collaborating with industry.

About the Aerospace Engineering Department
The Department of Aerospace Engineering is nationally recognized for its research and teaching. The department has an ABET accredited undergraduate program in aerospace engineering and graduate programs offering MEng, MS, and Ph.D. degrees in both aerospace engineering and engineering mechanics. The department is comprised of 21 full-time tenured/tenure-track faculty, 10 teaching faculty, 16 staff members, and approximately 1,060 undergraduate and 100 graduate students. Departmental annual research expenditures were in excess of $7.4 million in 2024.
